Product identity and mission

About PDFandDOC

PDFandDOC, also written editorially as PDF & DOC, is a document-tool product focused on practical PDF tasks, clear capability boundaries and evidence-backed guidance for a global audience.

Mission

  • Provide practical document tooling with conservative, testable capability claims.
  • Publish evidence-backed guides and trust content alongside the tools they describe.
  • State important limitations next to capabilities so current product boundaries remain clear.
  • Make processing location understandable before a user commits an important file, especially where a workflow changes from browser-local handling to temporary Secure Cloud processing.
  • Explain decision points that materially change a workflow, such as when OCR is needed, when a visible signature is only page content, and why conversions between page-oriented PDF and editable document formats can change structure or appearance.

Current product

  • PDFandDOC provides practical PDF and document tools. Most supported tasks process files in your browser; Word to Image, Word to PDF and OCR PDF clearly identify Secure Cloud processing before you start.
  • For Secure Cloud tools, selected files go directly from the browser to cloud.pdfanddoc.com for temporary processing. Browser-direct URL intake remains a source-site-to-browser flow and depends on the source site's CORS policy.
  • Current guides and trust pages document reviewed product behavior, testing evidence and known limitations without implying capabilities the tools do not provide.
  • The browser-local group includes PDF operations, image conversions, native-text PDF to Word, Image to Word OCR and DOCX-to-text extraction where the individual tool states that behavior. Those routes keep document processing on the device and do not silently switch to Secure Cloud when a file is unsupported or processing fails.
  • The Secure Cloud group is intentionally small: Word to Image and Word to PDF accept DOCX only, while OCR PDF accepts PDF and creates a searchable PDF. Completed cloud results are available for up to 15 minutes, abandoned or failed jobs for up to 30 minutes, and customer-file data is removed within 60 minutes; an explicit delete action may remove it sooner.
  • OCR behavior is split by source type rather than hidden behind a generic converter. Image to Word recognizes text from supported images in the browser and produces editable DOCX, while OCR PDF handles PDF pages through the separate Secure Cloud searchable-PDF workflow. PDF to Word remains native-text-only and has no OCR or cloud fallback.
  • Files can be chosen from the device or, where the interface offers it, imported directly by the browser from an HTTPS source that permits cross-origin access. After selection, the file follows the processing path of the chosen tool; URL intake does not turn a browser-local tool into a cloud task or bypass the disclosure on a Secure Cloud route.

Current boundaries

  • Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are unsupported and fail closed without a password or decryption workflow.
  • Fill PDF adds flattened text, date, checkbox and simple-mark overlays; it does not detect or fill native AcroForm or XFA fields.
  • Visual Sign adds typed, drawn or uploaded visual signature content as flattened page content. It is not a certificate-backed digital signature or e-sign workflow.
  • Image to Word provides browser-local OCR for supported images and editable DOCX output. Word to Text locally extracts text from DOCX. OCR PDF is a separate Secure Cloud searchable-PDF workflow.
  • Word to Image and Word to PDF accept DOCX only; legacy .doc is not advertised or accepted. PDF to Word is intentionally narrower: it uses existing native PDF text and does not perform OCR or silently switch to cloud processing.
  • PDFandDOC has no current public account, billing, public developer API or durable document-storage product; Secure Cloud workflows use temporary processing and live advertising remains disabled.
  • This page describes product/brand identity only; it does not identify or imply a legal entity, operator, owner, founder, team, office, location, jurisdiction, contact channel, support channel or security-reporting channel.
  • This page describes the product and its current user-facing capabilities; it is not a live uptime or service-status page.
  • Browser-local processing is a file-processing boundary, not a promise of universal security, anonymity, regulatory compliance, malware protection or zero network activity. Ordinary website requests may still occur while document bytes remain local to the browser workflow.
  • Browser-direct URL import depends on the source server allowing cross-origin browser access. PDFandDOC does not provide a hidden server-side URL fetcher or proxy to bypass a source site's CORS policy.
