What this tool does
Compress PDF runs locally in your browser so you can prepare, preview and export the supported result without a server upload.
This locally rewrites compatible PDF structure with object streams. It does not downsample or recompress images, and when the rewrite is not smaller the original bytes are kept.
How to use it
- Choose the supported input file or files from your device.
- Review the preview and adjust the available output options.
- Run Compress PDF, review the result and download it when it is ready.
Limits and fidelity
- Support depends on browser capabilities and the source file format.
- Very large or complex files can be limited by available device memory and processing speed.
- Password-protected PDFs are not supported when a PDF is the input.
Privacy
Supported processing happens in your browser. Selected file bytes are not sent to PDFandDOC servers.
Safety
Keep the original file and inspect the downloaded result before replacing an important document or asset.
About this workflow
Compress PDF applies the current browser-local structural optimization workflow and reports the actual output size. It does not advertise a fixed compression percentage because savings depend on how the source PDF is built.
The document stays in the browser. The result is validated as a PDF before download, and the UI can compare original and output size when a smaller valid result is produced.
What to check before processing
Check the original size and keep realistic expectations for PDFs that are already optimized, dominated by compressed images or contain structures the current optimizer does not rewrite aggressively.
Compression should be evaluated together with document usability. A smaller file is useful only if pages, text and required features still behave acceptably in the viewers you use.
What to expect from the result
The result panel reports the generated file size and computed saving rather than claiming an estimated percentage in advance. A preview is provided when the generated PDF can be rendered truthfully.
The optimizer is structural and does not promise image-quality tuning or a universal smallest possible PDF. Different compression products can make different tradeoffs.
Common uses
- Reduce a structurally repetitive PDF before email or upload limits.
- Check whether a generated PDF can be made smaller without a remote service.
- Optimize a combined PDF after a merge when the current structure allows savings.
Tips for a better result
- Compare actual before-and-after size rather than assuming every PDF will shrink substantially.
- Review the generated PDF before discarding the original.
- If image downsampling is required, do not assume this structural optimizer provides that separate capability.
Frequently asked questions
- How much smaller will my PDF become?
- There is no fixed percentage. The result depends on the source structure, and the UI reports the actual output size.
- Are files uploaded for compression?
- No. Supported compression runs in the browser without a Secure Cloud fallback.
