What this tool does
ICO to PNG runs locally in your browser so you can prepare, preview and export the supported result without a server upload.
The tool outputs one PNG, preferring the largest embedded PNG entry; it does not export every ICO size.
How to use it
- Choose the supported input file or files from your device.
- Review the preview and adjust the available output options.
- Run ICO to PNG, review the result and download it when it is ready.
Limits and fidelity
- Support depends on browser capabilities and the source file format.
- Very large or complex files can be limited by available device memory and processing speed.
- Password-protected PDFs are not supported when a PDF is the input.
Privacy
Supported processing happens in your browser. Selected file bytes are not sent to PDFandDOC servers.
Safety
Keep the original file and inspect the downloaded result before replacing an important document or asset.
About this workflow
ICO to PNG decodes a supported icon resource and creates a PNG image from the selected icon representation supported by the runtime. The workspace uses a real decoded preview when available rather than inventing an icon image.
The conversion runs locally in the browser. PNG is a raster image format, so the output represents one decoded icon image rather than preserving the ICO container structure.
What to check before processing
Confirm that the selected file is a readable ICO and inspect the decoded source preview when the browser runtime supports it. ICO files can contain multiple representations, and the current converter uses the representation defined by its implementation rather than promising arbitrary icon-resource editing.
If a specific target size is required, verify the resulting PNG dimensions before using it downstream.
What to expect from the result
The result is an actual PNG byte stream with a PNG preview and download. The output no longer contains ICO container metadata or additional icon representations.
Color and transparency should be reviewed in the target application because display environments can use different backgrounds and scaling.
Common uses
- Extract a viewable PNG from an ICO asset.
- Use an icon image in software that accepts PNG but not ICO.
- Inspect a decoded icon representation as a regular raster image.
Tips for a better result
- Check output dimensions before using the PNG in a fixed-size interface.
- Review transparency on both light and dark backgrounds.
- Keep the ICO when multiple icon representations are still needed.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the PNG still contain multiple icon sizes?
- No. PNG is a single raster image output, not the multi-resource ICO container.
- Is the result preview generated from the PNG?
- The result preview is based on actual generated image bytes when the runtime provides it.
